Digital Technologies @ OLHC

Digital technologies @ OLHC

Rationale
The Digital Technologies curriculum at OLHC enables students to become confident and creative developers of digital solutions through the use of computers and specific ways of thinking about problem solving.
Our students acquire a deep knowledge and understanding of digital systems, data and information and the processes associated with creating digital solutions so they can take up an active role in meeting current and future needs.
Learning in Digital Technologies at OLHC.
At OLHC, students are actively engaged in the processes of analysing problems and opportunities, designing, developing and evaluating digital solutions, and creating and sharing information that meets a range of current and future needs. Students learn to safely and ethically exploit the capacity of information systems to create digital solutions. These solutions and information are created through the application of computational, design and systems thinking, and technical skills.

Coding Resources for Practice at Home

https://scratch.mit.edu/ -  For kids aged 8-16 years, this is a great website where they can learn how to build practically anything they can dream of.
https://blockly.games/ - As the name suggests, this website teaches programming in a series of puzzles and blocks. Kids need to solve a puzzle through drag and drop to create a story that solves a specific problem. They are then allowed to see the results of their work in action.
https://www.tynker.com/hour-of-code/ -  This website allows kids to learn programming at their own pace. There is so much to do here and with easy lessons and tutorials, kids can be able to make practically anything they wish including applications, web apps, games or website pages. The website is free to use but there is a subscription if your kid wants to take their expertise to the next level.
