Visual Arts @ OLHC

Stunning Senior work on display

Check out our Picasso inspired artwork (Grade 3/4), Easter Art festival entries (Gr. 5/6) and some terrific staff portraits (Gr 1/2)...have a look at the amazing resemblance of "Mr.K."

Thx Mrs Smits for sharing.

About our Visual Arts program

Picture
This skills based approach to implementing Visual Arts at OLHC ensures that students experience the key features of the Learner Profile during Visual Art lessons.  This will ensure that students receive a balanced and even coverage in the aspects of modelling, construction, threads and textiles as well as the more familiar, drawing, painting and printmaking.  Skills taught in these areas are closely matched to students’ developmental abilities.
Guided by the Victorian Curriculum, the Visual Arts have a common structure involving four interdependent strands, each involving students making and responding.  For levels F-6 they are:

EXPLORE AND EXPRESS IDEAS - Explore imagining, experimenting and expressing ideas, concepts, themes, values, beliefs, observations and experiences in artwork that students make and view.

PRACTICES - Developing and understanding skills by exploring, selecting, applying and manipulating techniques and processes.  Conceptualising, planning and designing artwork.

PRESENT AND PERFORM - Creating, exhibiting, discussing, analysing artworks and considering the intention of artists and curators.  Consider the relationship between artist intentions and audience, engagement and interpretation.

RESPOND AND INTERPRET - Analysing, evaluating, interpreting and reflecting upon meanings, beliefs and values in artwork.  Examining artwork in historical and cultural contexts.

Students learn as artist and as audience through making and responding.
Making is informed by responding and responding informs making.
